Beautification Commission Meeting
Thursday June 5, 2014

Call to order:
Chair Sirois called the meeting of the Beautification Commission to order at 5:32 p.m.
Acceptance of minutes of may 1, 2014
Betty Russell made a motion to accept the minutes of the May 1, 2014 meeting.
Seconded by Mary Mourey. Approved.
Opportunity for citizens to speak.
None at this time.
DIRECTOR’S REPORTS
Ted Fravel reported that this Saturday, June 7 there will be a state wide trail clean up. Hours are 12-2:30 pm.
Tim Bockus reported on the following:
125 Pratt Street 48” Maple Owned by the Town Dropping limbs into street
Recommend removal.
91 Dartmouth Various trees Owned by the Town Trees overhang property
(resident concerned they will fall
and break his fence)
No further action.
143 Oak Pine Trees Private owner Trees are damaged. Letter sent for
removal.
73 Sunnyreach Pine Tree Private owner Trees dropping branches.
Recommend trimming.
373 Main Maple Tree Private owner Tree dead/damaged.
Recommend removal.
42 Ferncrest Maple Tree Private owner Appears healthy, recommend
arborist come in.
No further action.
37 Greene Terr Maple Tree Private owner Tree damaged. Letter sent for
removal.
There is a concern at the median on Oak Street/Hills Street. Trees are growing in the wires. Tim will have his department evaluate.
Tim further reported that some trees may be removed at the Raymond Library. The town will have an arborist come to identify which trees should be removed.
Tim stated that there have been many improvements to the East Hartford Golf Course. A fence was installed and the greens have been treated. Work has been done at Town Hall as well as the Cultural Center.
Tim showed the Commissioners the parking lot sketch for the new parking lot at Town Hall.

Betty Russell complimented Tim Bockus for his assistance in getting a pole taken care of on Oak Street. Tim stated that double poles are a state wide problem.
The lights on Long Hill Drive have been repaired and the town is waiting for CL&P to connect the feed.
Financial Report:
Mary Mourey reported the following:
- $6328.41 – General Fund
- $520.96 - Remembrance Fund (being used on Pitkin Street)
Communications:
Chair Sirois received the following communication:
- Arbor Day Foundation
- Information from a roaming railroad. Chair Sirois will contact them in reference to cost.
Chair's report
Chair Siois spoke to Rotarian Mary Martin. The Rotary Club will be donating $300-500 towards Holiday Fest. Chair Sirois asked Commissioners to present recommendations next month.
Chair Sirois will be contacting the Chamber of Commerce to seek their assistance for Holiday Fest.
Chair Sirois further reported that the banners for Holiday Fest are repaired and the cost is $565.00.
old BUsiness:
Tony Russo reported the town is working diligently cleaning the flower beds throughout town. The garden behind the Brewer House is completed.
- Community Pride Award to Goodwin College
Chair Sirois will send a letter to Goodwin College. They will be presented the award at the July 15, 2014 Town Council meeting.

Beautification Awards - Residential

Seconded by Better Russell
To give the June 2014 Residential Beautification Award to 179 and 180 Harvest Lane.
Approved.
Beautification Award – Business
MOTION By Mary Mourey
Seconded by Betty Russell
To give the July 2014 Business Beautification Award to Farmington Bank on Main Street.
Approved.
Chair Sirois reminded the Commissioners to email the clerk with recommendations for next month. The clerk will inform the other Commissioners.
OTHER BUSINESS
Dolores Kehoe made a recommendation that the Commission look into having signs made for those residents and businesses awarded the Beautification Award. Tim Bockus said his department can make signs and he will come to the July meeting with some recommendations as well as cost.
Pat Perron informed Chair Siriois that she will be out of state for the July 3 meeting.

Dolores Kehoe made a motion to pay the bills as submitted. Seconded by Pat Perron. Approved.
Adjournment:
There being no further business, Betty Russell made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:52 p.m. Seconded by Mary Mourey. Approved.
The next meeting of the Commission will be on July 3, 2014 in Building Department Conference Room at 5:30 p.m.
